Gina Paris Design Studio
From the very beginning, I knew that I needed a professional design studio if I was going to build a ‘real business’ and not just a hobby business. I emptied our formal living room–which wasn’t being used– of it’s furnishings, and filled it with functional and beautiful treasures found through clients, Craigslist, and family.
Some of the pieces were already distressed to my liking; however my uncle’s 1970s desk required my attention. I loved the dark wood desk top, but the body was faded and orange from years of sun light and smoke. In four hours time I primed, painted, crackled, glazed, sanded and clear coated the desk’s base to fit in with the armoires. I left the lovely top wood for contrast and interest.
Originally, I had Bisque color sculpted carpet installed because it was less expensive than hardwood. Eight years later, the carpet was wrinkled and dirty– it felt gross. I recently replaced the carpet with White Oak hardwood flooring. Now my space feels great–I love my studio!
Gina Paris Kitchen Makeover
I’m a big fan of dark and contrasting colors so when we moved into our home, 16 years ago, I opted for a dark Blue Pearl granite tiled backsplash and island top. I loved the Blue Pearl, but over time I realized the house was dark and the tile made it feel even darker to me. I felt it was time for a mini renovation in our kitchen.
What changed: the backsplash, island, and island lighting.
Out with the Blue Pearl backsplash and in with a lighter, brighter Travertine rhombus tile-turned sideways- backsplash with glass tile inserts.
My dad made a base cabinet to extend the island– it now supports a gorgeous 8′ marble slab. I painted the island base cabinets a solid creamy white, and added modern glass knobs.
Billy, my husband, removed the island light fixture and installed three cool Mica and Glass tile pendent lights (which I won from Lamps Plus in a trade show Instagram contest) over the island for me.
Oh, I also designed and installed custom window treatments to finish the room. Sometimes you don’t have to gut a room to change it. Sometimes a mini makeover is all you need– that’s all I needed.
What People are Saying…
“What a pleasure it was having Gina Paris come to our home. She is so easy to work with. The
color palette Gina helped me with for our large family room was perfect. It’s colors brought
warmth and a relaxed mood– we are so much enjoying our room. And, now the compliments
have been overwhelming. I especially love how she pulled the palette of colors together with
what we already have in furnishings and etc.. Gina Paris is highly recommended!”
